ACPO Will Love This

Apparently police in Denmark are trying to get their parliament to introduce laws making it illegal to surf the internet anonymously. The proposal is intended to help investigate terrorism.

Oh For Fucks Sake!!!

Just how much further down the totalitarian road do things have to go before the sheeples rise up and give authorities a bloody good kicking?

Don’t they realise that reality is getting perilously close to the “future” as portrayed in many SciFi films? We can but hope that this doesn’t come to pass, or it will set a dangerous precedent which other countries will quickly copy.

It is said that you shouldn’t wish your life away, but every time I see something like this it fills me with despair. I’m old enough to remember relative freedom – it seems that the carefree 70′s are gone, never to return. Or maybe not?

  3. May I go back to the 1960s, please?

    Fuck sight better than nowadays.

TPTB hate the internet, don’t they? I cannot believe how much life has changed and how distant a memory that sense of freedom is. It’s as of they want everyone to be paranoid. States both contemptuous of and at war with its people. There was grey, common sense, humanity…

I can’t believe the change in just 10 years.

    • Captain Haddock says:

TPTB are suspicious of anything which they can’t totally control, regulate or dominate ..

They are also terrified of anything which they don’t completely understand, are unable to master or are incapable of manipulating for their own ends ..

They also, inherently dislike anything which they can’t bleed dry through taxation ..

Therefore, by definition .. the internet is complete anathema to them ..

The changes to all of the above will come from within the industry, rather from outside influences ..

There are already more than sufficient world-wide, industry-based “players” only too willing to dance to the tune of governments, in return for favourable or profitable contracts etc ..

  5. Max Farquar says:

They can fuck right off with that idea!
To quote 4Chan … “Anonymity is authenticity, it allows you to share in an unvarnished, unfiltered, raw and real way”
    And long may it continue.

Relax, Lord Farquar. Stick those peas back in the freezer.
We have a thriving constituency of hackers and activists whose blood simply boils at the very suggestion of such measures. They will ensure that any such proposals, if implemented, fail totally.
TPTB think they can legislate everything. They think that policy always prevails whereas history teaches us that only truth ultimately does. TPTB are not innovative. They are slow, stolid zombies with no imaginitive flair whatsoever. They are ignorant of the pragmatic limits to their visions. Look what happened when they waved a magic wand and cooked up the Euro! What a disastrous failure that has been – and all because it wasn’t based on truth and reality. You can only successfully legislate so far and if that legislation is designed to curb truth and freedom, there are plenty of people out there now who will work 24/7 to ensure its defeat. And they have infinitely more flair, determination and ability than the pen-wielding, freedom-hating dullards who infest the world’s parliaments.
The genie, as they say, is well and truly out of the bottle….

It must be many years since I heard anyone say “It’s a free country, isn’t it?”

    Just saying.

    • Earwig says:

Over 30 years by my reckoning. Time we made it free again. These phenomena operate in cycles, but you have to reach a certain extreme before the cycle turns again. The broad mass of the Great Unwashed decide when these points arise. Patience is called for.

“I’m old enough to remember relative freedom – it seems that the carefree 70′s are gone, never to return … ”

    Yes, me too Max ..

Also interesting to note that the biggest long-haired, unwashed, drug-supporting, hippy lay-abouts of the 60′s & 70′s became the most tyrannical, totalitarian, freedom-denying government in British history .. once they gained power ..

It is depressing as hell Max. I am afraid I have basically baile dout and left the UK now. I cannot stand living under the EUSSR flag anymore.

    Fuck ‘em.

  10. The Wasp says:

ACPO may have bigger problems coming though as their funding starts getting squeezed by cash straped Police Authorities – in this case, South Yorkshires PA has decided to make a stand and
deny ACPO its slice of their pie this year

So it must prove that anonymous surfing does work.

    • Earwig says:

Not only does it work, it’s impossible to stop. Have these useless tools never heard of onion routers, to take just one example? Thick as pig shit the lot of ‘em.

Imagine my disappointment when your ‘link’ didn’t work…… :(

Try the Solaris operating system, Max. It features a “time slider” option which does exactly what it says on the tin, just like your mashup. If only life were that simple, too.
