Fireman Sam Racist

David Jones, the creator of childrens’ favourite Fireman Sam, has been detained and branded a racist after making an innocent burqa joke whilst going through security checks at Gatwick airport.

WTF!

I mean, it’s not like he stuck a burqa on Fireman Sam or anything …

Interesting that the Telegraph have not allowed a comment thread on this one.

Should any of the editors stray into this hallowed area of Free Speech, perhaps they would be so good as to consider the comment I would have liked to have written:

“UK airport security staff, with a few noble exceptions, are a humourless, anally retentive, objectionable, genitally challenged cunts. They are one of the reasons I have severe doubts about travelling by air these days. Their miserable mechanical demeanour sours a total holiday experience, and when I come across them I find that I think unfriendly thoughts involving lead-filled pipes and knuckle-dusters…

    I shit ‘em”

    Thank you so much.

      You’re welcome ;-)
So much for the Freedom of the Press, eh.

I flatly refuse to fly anywhere now. With the Tunnel, I can be in Paris or Brussels in a very short time, and from Paris I can reach anywhere except, perhaps Itally and Moscow, in an equally short time.

In addition, I am happy to go on a cruise now and again, if it is a small boat, like – for instance – the Frted Olsen Line.

I used to go home to South Africa every two years, and other far away places in between. Now I am finding out more of Europe and there are some beautiful cities there.

So sod the bastards at the airports, they won’t see me again.

I think the DT mods might have had an issue with the word “cunt”. They’re a bit prissy that way…

    @ “What race is Islam”?

    • Microdave says:

Precisely – HOWEVER, the bastards know full well that nobody can actually tell who or what is hiding behind a veil, so they can always use this bogus excuse to hassle you…

If the wearing of face coverings when going through security checks was outlawed, it would be immediately obvious what race, and gender of person was travelling. If you then chose to make a remark about “bloody arabs” for instance, they might have a point. But as it stands he did absolutely nothing wrong, and should demand an official apology.

The Mail Online calls the comment a “joke” and the telegraph calls it a “quip.” But I don’t see it as anything of the sort. David Jones raises a serious, genuine concern about safety and security regarding passing through airport checks with your face covered. Detaining a British pensioner for expressing his concerns does nothing for either security or hate crime, it is simply bullying.

Equally frightening is the fact that these oficials believe they have power to detain a member of the public for something which is (not just not an offence but) completely and absolutely outside their juristiction and powers – and yet nobody in the press or elsewhere has even commented on or questioned this aspect.

  8. ComfortablyNumb says:

    FFS!

David Jones has done nothing he should be ashamed of.

What is this country coming to? Sharia anyone?

Far from apologising I would have informed all involved that, though not sorry for making an observation, I do feel sorry for all of them in that I pity them for not being able to progress past a level of childish behaviour that sees them getting all upset and throwing temper-tantrums when the grown-ups are talking.
Quiet now little ones, good boys and girls should be seen and not heard… Now run along and go play on the runway for a bit.

In a previous life and under a different name I used to run my own “thiefdom” of a major international airline.
I was in total control of the whole operation.
You would be amazed how much the “authorities” know about you and in particular people like myself: inside leg measurement and all.
The amount of security people “undercover” including Mossad that you know nothing about at UK airports.
I used to have quiet a good working relationship with the local fuzz and special branch.
The “bully-boys” you see these days are a new idea. I get the feeling they are not really for security but to ratchet-up the fear and coercion factor for the criminals that run governments.
Best policy is to smile sweetly and lie-low below the parapet . That’s, of course, if you wish to fly. You are not making a statement of “freedom” if you make comments or jokes. You are just trying to cover your feelings of frustration and annoyance. They don’t care. Even airport directors are subject to their stupidity.
The one thing I can say was that if we had problems with the “authorities” you could imagine the “difficulties” they had if they ever tried to fly anywhere.

Spot on, Woodsy42. It is the use of state power for personal ends. And management colluded in it.
