Climate Week 2014

I hope you’re all looking forward to this years “Climate Week” – I know I am.  By which I mean it will give me yet another chance to rant and rage at the utter stupidity of this pointless, but apparently well funded, campaign. It was set up in 2010 by one Kevin Steele, who according to his Linkedin profile doesn’t appear to have done much in the way of productive work since leaving university.

The site is reminiscent of  “Cool The World”  that Gotty featured (strangely, also in 2010) – another attempt at brainwashing. Unlike that one, however, Climate Week doesn’t seem to be a registered charity – a near standard business model for any sort of campaigning outfit these days. So I haven’t been able to download their accounts and see just what sort of money is involved. But the “Supporters” page has a huge listing, covering just about every private and government source of funding imaginable. How nice that such “Eminent individuals” as Al Gore, Paul McCartney, Ed Balls, MP and all the current political leaders are mentioned.

I had to larf at seeing “Keep Scotland Beautiful” included – quite how that motto covers littering their countryside with bird mincers I really don’t know. You are also encouraged to make today “Meat Free Monday” – guess which eminent individual is behind this! Why not partake of large quantities of beans, lentils and other vegetables, and get a “warm feeling” when you emit plenty of the greenhouse gas methane later!  I also spotted “Population Matters” in the list, so we know the REAL agenda behind the term “Sustainable”.

5 minute conversation Climate Week

I trust you will all try and find 5 minutes of your day to engage someone in conversation, and combat this grotesque waste of our money in a pointless exercise. If they don’t agree, and accuse you of being “Big Oil” funded deniers, just threaten to blow them up – the infamous  “10:10″ are also supporters…

MD

P.S. You’ve got an Open Thread for general topics, so keep to relevant comments here, please.

  1. “Climate Week”. I think we should all support it. Have you any idea of the hardship that would ensue if we didn’t have a climate?

You mockingly mention the “Cool the World” initiative. But it worked, didn’t it! All that nasty Global Warming has stopped.

You mock renewable energy, but if those nice Ukrainians won’t allow Russia’s gas through its territory en-route to Europe, we will be truly grateful for our windmills. Please ask Mr Putin not to invade until March approaches its ‘…out like a lion’ period; it’s current “..in like a lamb” period isn’t enabling much wind power to be generated.

  2. True to form, both Camoron his so-called “opposite” number, Red Ed, have taken to using the new term “man made climate change” just like Tweedledee & Tweedledum when referencing the scam, in a rather obvious attempt to blame (and charge, of course) the taxpayer for the recent foul weather (that we’ve typically had at this time of year for centuries).
They’re obviously hoping to get the ‘we’re all to blame’ meme into the public consciousness with this new turn of phrase. Camoron/Clegg/REd: not a fig leaf of difference between the lot of them; just like three peas in the same pod. Which is exactly what they are, of course.

    Some scratchings:

Websute is owned and operated by Climate Week Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales with registered number 06646940 whose registered office is at 35 Ballards Lane, London, N3 1XW. (This appears to be the accountant’s address rather than a company office).

    Company information summary

    http://companycheck.co.uk/company/06646940

    £15,197 Cash

    £44,050 Net Worth

    £90,363 Assets

    £49,543 Liabilities

Claire Coates Steele was company secretary in 2009, then became a director in December 2013. At that point Kevin Steele stopped being a director. Their names (I think it is the same people) register as directors of several diverse companies, so they may be legal appointees rather than the actual operators of Climate Week.

Companies House has the accounts for sale, of course.

The returns there also say a Kevin Steele (and I’m assuming it is the same one, but this could be a mistake) is associated with Family Week Ltd, an entity held by Henley Media Ltd.

(I have to do this separately because your modbot only lets through a single link to stop spammers).

It is not apparent whether Kevin Steele held Climate Week for Henley Media, or if it was his own product. . Some of the contact names – such as Jane Nethersole (for Henley Media) turn up as director names on a list of companies.

Henley Media produces magazines, handbooks, the concept of ‘weeks’ (PR events) and possibly some actual meetings. It has found that it can plug in to public money to do this because despite the army of civil servants, SpADs, and top-layer drones at the UN etc, all those lazy arses can do is ring up Henley and say “Help me, make it look like I have a proper job, there’s a big drink in it for you.”

Henley then produce and impressive sounding talking-shop, pimping it by using the logos of the wasters.
I admire Henley for its ability to create a business out of very little. For avoidance of doubt, there is nothing wrong in what it does and it is possible that some of the publications are useful, although one should not be over-impressed by its credentials. Fluffy products such as ‘National Family Week’ are pure spin, designed to persuade people that the government is ‘doing something’ when in fact David Cameron in particular could not give a stuff about families.

    Background on Kevin Steele

The Chancellor, Gordon Brown said: “I would like to thank Kevin Steele and all the individual members of Enterprise Insight, who have created not just an organisation but a movement.”

    • Is this the same Kevin Steele, highly personable and competent solicitor, who once worked for Cripps Harris Hall (a big law firm in Tunbridge Wells) up until the early 2000s whereupon he was summarily dismissed for no good reason whatsoever as part of some supposed cost-cutting exercise? Is this what he’s now come to? I think we should be told. ;-)

    • Thanks, WOAR – I admit that I posted rather hastily, and didn’t do much research. I have been so used to organisations like this being “charities” that I had overlooked checking the companies register. A bit odd that their details should be on the “Terms & Conditions” page rather than at the bottom of the main page, or on a “About Us” page…

What ever good work he may have been responsible for, the following immediately undoes it:
“With Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth, he co-founded the “Stop Esso” campaign to pressurise the oil company to publicly admit the reality of climate change”

The reality of climate change??? – What you mean a small matter that has been going on for millions of years, and will continue for millions more, regardless of anything mankind does, or does not do… WUWT has a good post up today in which Anthony rips apart The National Geographic’s sensationalist cover suggesting the Statue of Liberty could disappear under the waves:
      http://wattsupwiththat.com/2014/03/05/the-statute-of-liberty-is-threatened-by-global-warming-again/#more-104438

@ Wiggy – his profile says nothing about being a solicitor – there are many more of the same name listed.

And the “modbot” is set to catch 3 OR MORE URL’s, so you should be able to post 2 at a time.

  7. Gordon Brown said: “not just an organisation but a movement.”

By “movement” do you think he means one of those things I send of to the coast each morning?

  9. How can a handful of political activists and green campaigners engineer the biggest and most expensive destruction of mass hysteria that threatens the very fabric of our society ? The truth is we, the thinking minority, not the brainwashed majority, will never win this argument, no matter how much overwhelming and persuasive proof is produced because this is not about the science this is, and always will be, about “Politics” and nothing more.

    • There was a good piece over at Mac’s place earlier today http://foggy-mirror.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/and-then-words-of-wisdom.html

He found this little comment which is, if I may say, bloody brilliant:

”The question over at WUWT and I believe the one we should all be writing and asking our MP’s is……
“What is the perfect temperature of Earth? I’m assuming that climate change-related taxes will be used to bring our planet back to the perfect temperature, and I need to know when that has been reached”.”

I’m going to send this to my MP just to see what bollocks he replies with. I am not expecting an in depth reply from the Rt. Hon Huge Spire, however … East Devon is one of those places where a turd was once lovingly recovered from the beach at Sidmouth, adorned with a blue rosette and triumphantly returned to office for three elections on the trot.
